A key figure in Melbourne music, Sean possessed a unique aesthetic vision and intellectual depth, mixing high brow philosophical concepts with punk sensibilities in how he lived, spoke and played. He was pure energy.

Drummer for The Throwaways, Bucketrider, Lazy, SxSxSx, Terminal Hz, as well our trio Pateras/Baxter/Brown.

A ravenous improviser, he initiated numerous collaborations both locally and internationally for over 30 years.

Catalyst, concert organiser and lover of all things avant, he and his indomitable love of music all over the spectrum will be deeply missed.

In the coming months, or when the virus restrictions are over (there are currently only 10 people allowed at a funeral in Melbourne), a tribute concert will take place, celebrating Sean's life and spirit.

To help fund this celebration, David Brown and I will be donating all future sales of Pateras/Baxter/Brown’s 2019 release Bern / Melbourne / Milan towards the Sean Baxter tribute fund.

If you would like to help out, the release, featuring two full length albums, comes with an illuminating 32 page essay by Sean on free improvisation.

If you already have the record, please consider sending it as a gift or spreading the word about this initiative.

The link above is for digital, but please get in touch directly for a physical sale.
